Our First Christmas At Home

It's been an embarrassingly long time since I've posted, but as it tends to go during the holidays, life gets busy and there never seem to be enough hours in the day!  However, I couldn't let the season go by without sharing a peek into our merry little home--all decked for the holidays!

Earlier this year, the beau (+ Edie, the terrier) and I moved in together--and so the process of "blending styles" began--as did the process of forcing Edie and NoNo to get along...Luckily, we have similar tastes and like a lot of the same things, so it was actually quite easy to create a cohesive look in our home...until Christmas.  Once the boxes of decorations started coming down from the attic, it became more and more apparent that our yuletide styles were stark opposites.
In all fairness, I get that my Christmas style isn't for everyone, especially a guy.  We quickly realized that we were going to have to compromise, so in an effort to find holiday decor that had both of us feeling jolly, we headed to my  'go-to' for holiday decor, At Home!

After a few laps around At Home, we finally came up with a "vision" that we could both agree on and started loading up our sleigh cart!  We decided that we would use some of the decorations I already owned (i.e. disco balls) and would add in more traditional touches like solid red, green, gold, and white ornaments throughout the tree, to make it a little more his style.

Faux Poinsettias
At Home has a huge assortment of holiday florals.  We purchased a couple faux poinsettias bushes and put them on the front porch, however I snipped a few flowers from one of the bushes and put them in vases around the house for additional pops of red.  Faux poinsettias are one of my favorites because (a) they're safe for pets! and (b) you don't have to water them. Win!

While the tree--and living room in general--lends itself to be more his style, I managed to sneak in a couple of my previously-owned disco balls and pineapple ornaments, because -- why not?!

Colored Christmas Lights
The living room might be more his style, but the dining room is certainly more mine, with bright colors and a little more sparkle.  His personal touch? The colored lights on my beloved fiddle leaf fig.

Vase Sparkly Greenery
There are few things I love more than setting a pretty table, and the holidays are the perfect excuse to do so. I was immediately drawn to this vase because...well, gold...and the addition of the sparkly greenery made for the perfect centerpiece.  We used silver ornaments to fill the vase and threw in one hot pink ornament for good measure.

Miniature Christmas Tree | Mini Ornaments Bird
And because no nightstand is complete without a miniature, pre-lit version of your Christmas tree, he added this little number in the master bedroom--faux bird ornament and all! (I think it's a family thing...) I even cut a mini-version of our tree skirt to match.  We clearly had too much time on our hands that day!

Christmas really is the most magical time of year.  Simple things like cozy, twinkle lights and Christmas carols playing throughout the house are enough to make you forget about the craziness of the 40-hour (or 70-hour, in our cases!) work week, and appreciate the time you have with each other.  We're so excited to spend our first Christmas under the same roof and I look forward to years to come of me trying to convince him that disco balls are considered holiday decor.

What's your reason to decorate this holiday? I'd love to hear! Feel free to share in the comments below, or on social media using #MyReason.
